The workers' strike at Samsung India's plant near Chennai has been called off after a resolution was reached, with management announcing several welfare measures on October 15, media reports said.

According to a statement from the Tamil Nadu Labour Department, the strike ended following instructions from Chief Minister MK Stalin and other ministers, Moneycontrol reported.

Officials from various departments facilitated meetings with the concerned parties, and based on these conciliatory discussions, it was agreed to call off the strike immediately and resume work, the report said.

The management of Samsung India introduced several initiatives aimed at benefiting the workers, the State Labour Department said in a statement.

Workers were also assured that there would be no retaliation against those who participated in the strike once they returned to work.

The management has agreed to provide written assurances addressing the charter of demands filed by the workers with the conciliation officer, the Labour Department confirmed, according to the report.

The sit-in protest, involving over 1,000 striking workers at Samsung's Chennai factory, had reached its 37th day before the resolution was reached.

The plant, one of two Samsung factories in India, employs around 1,800 permanent workers and produces refrigerators, TVs, and washing machines. The other factory, located in Uttar Pradesh, manufactures smartphones.

This plant is crucial to Samsung's operations in India, accounting for approximately one-fifth of its $12 billion sales in FY23.
