SC bans sale of BS III vehicles from April 1

New Delhi, Mar 29 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a ban on the sale of vehicles using older technologies, starting April 1, according to media reports.

While the top court order is being eyed as a setback by automakers, the court said that right to life is more important than commercial losses.

SC imposed the ban on sale of BS III vehicles from April 1 when the BS IV emission norms for vehicles come into force.

The verdict seals the fate of 824,000 unsold two and three-wheelers, trucks and buses. Collectively worth over Rs 12,000 crore, the inventory runs the risk of being turned into junk if the apex court rules that such vehicles cannot be allowed to be registered, reported moneycontrol.com.

The top court said that it is time environmental protection in the face of rising pollution should be given more importance.
