Sensex falls by over 100 points

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Wednesday lost further by 170.77 points at 63,704.16 in the opening session as selling was seen in metal, power, and technology stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) eased 10.30 points to 19,069.30.

The equity market was seen as weak in early trade because of the weak Asian market.

The midcap fell by 0.12 pc while the small Cap rose by 0.17 pc.

In 30 scrips, 9 advanced, 20 declined, and one remained unchanged.

The losers were Bharti Airtel by 1.91 pc to Rs 896.70, Axis Bank by 0.81 pc to Rs 973.90, JSW Steel by 0.64 pc to Rs 731.35, Asian Paints by 0.62 pc to Rs 2977.70, and HDFC Bank by 0.56 pc to Rs 1468.45.

The gainers were L & T by 63 pc to Rs 2976.55, M& M by 0.64 pc to Rs 1468.05, ITC by 0.26 pc to Rs 429.65, and Wipro by 0.38 pc to Rs 383.40.
