Sensex plunges 34.09 points

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday fell marginally by 34.09 points to settle at 72,152 on profit booking by local operators.

While the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended almost flat at 21,930.50, rising one point.

The NSE registered days high and low at 22,053.30 and 21,860.15 pts, respectively.

The Sensex opened at 72,548.50, surging 362 pts. During the day, it spiked 373 points at 72,559.21 days high. In late trade, it slipped 248 pts at 71,938.22, days low, before closing at 72,152, sliding 34.09 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that slipped were IT by 1.18 pc, technology by 0.97 pc, and BSE services by 0.81 pc.

The midcap was gained by 1.31 pc and the smallcap by 0.38 pc.

In 30 scrips, 18 advanced while 12 declined.

The losers were Tech Mahindra by 2.55 pc to Rs 1315.95, Powergrid by 2.50 pc to Rs 267.50, Infosys by 1.97 pc to Rs 1695.15, and HDFC Bank by 0.92 pc to Rs 1430.

The gainers were SBI by 4.09 pc to Rs 677.50, JSW Steel by 2.22 pc to Rs 837.25, Bajaj Finance by 1.87 pc to Rs 6724.95, and Nestle India Ltd by 1.84 pc to Rs 2503.
