Tata Group seeks additional land for Dholera semiconductor project

Tata Group is seeking an additional 80 acres for the expansion of its mega semiconductor chip plant in Gujarat’s Dholera, according to a Business Standard report.

The request follows the 20-acre parcel previously allocated by the Gujarat government.

Housing and amenities for employees

The additional land will be used to develop housing facilities for around 4,000 employees of Tata Electronics. These facilities will include studio apartments, a shopping complex, a sports arena, and other amenities, sources told Business Standard.

Govt support for expansion

Along with the 100-acre allocation, the Gujarat government has also committed 63 more acres to Tata Electronics to support further expansion in Dholera.

India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant

The Dholera semiconductor plant, approved by the Centre in February last year, is India’s first chip fabrication unit under the India Semiconductor Mission. The plant is expected to begin operations by 2027.

Project cost and investment

Tata Group is investing over ₹91,000 crore in the Dholera plant. While the land value is estimated at ₹200 crore, the company plans to spend ₹15,710 crore on the fabrication unit and associated facilities.
