Tata Power reinforces efforts towards saving the Mighty Mahseer
The company reaffirmed its commitment towards saving the Mighty Mahseer by initiating a new campaign titled ‘Save Mahseer, Save Us- Stop Water Pollution!’ under ‘Act for Mahseer’– largest and the most comprehensive campaign on Mahseer conservation.
Through this new campaign, Tata Power encourages people to ‘Pledge’ to save the endangered species and reach out to a million people.
The objective of this campaign for 2016 will be to focus on reducing water pollution and sensitizing towards importance of water bodies which will help saving fresh water habitats. The campaign will focus on different themes each month which will emphasize to address the issue of water pollution.
Through the ‘Act for Mahseer’ initiative, 650 people have pledged under till date. The online Pledge campaign is Pledge today & become a Fish Knight. One can pledge to be a certified Fish Knight by pledging on the Act for Mahseer page on the Company’s website and receiving an online certificate. Fish Knights will help in sensitizing 1 Million people and practice & engage at least 100 people in activities to stop water pollution. The overall objective is to drive more people to Pledge for Mahseer and become a 'Fish Knight' who in turn would contribute through more socially engaging and actionable monthly engagement initiatives to stop water pollution.
The ongoing digital initiative will confer the title of ‘Fish’s Knight’ to individuals who will help in sensitising citizens on ‘saving the Mahseer’. These Knights are further encouraged through various forms of recognition across platforms. The best Knights may also win a trip to a location where Mahseer conservation is being undertaken. The most active knights will be privileged to speak as Company representatives at various forums like awareness sessions with Club Enerji kids, employee kid’s camp or as an introductory speaker at important Company gatherings.
Commenting on the launch of the initiative, Anil Sardana, CEO & MD, Tata Power stated, “For over 4 decades, Tata Power has undertaken numerous efforts to conserve the Mahseer species which is still classified as an endangered species undergoing slow extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). Through this initiative, we are focusing on the broader issue of water pollution that results into loss of water habitat including the mighty Mahseer. Our efforts at nation building go beyond lighting up lives and includes caring for the community as well as flora and fauna near our areas of operations. This campaign will highlight themes around water pollution every month throughout the year. We strongly urge to people to join our efforts and pledge towards saving the mighty Mahseer.”
