Volkswagen India announces start of production and pre-bookings open for the much-awaited

Mumbai/Pune: Volkswagen Passenger Cars India announces the start of production and pre-bookings open for the much-awaited SUVW – the Taigun.

Built on the MQB A0 IN platform, the first Taigun is being rolled out from the Chakan plant in Pune today. With deliveries beginning in September, all customers can now pre-book the Taigun across Volkswagen online and offline retail platforms.

The first product from Volkswagen under the India 2.0 project, the Taigun will retain the brand’s DNA of superior build quality, safety and a fun-to-drive experience. The bold, dynamic and German engineered SUVW, Volkswagen Taigun exudes character and confidence. It boasts of a charismatic design language, with striking exteriors, premium interiors, digital cockpit, modern and convenient infotainment systems. The Taigun is spacious and keeps the occupants and those outside the vehicle safe and secure.

Commenting on the announcement, Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director, ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Today, we embark on a journey that marks a significant milestone for Volkswagen, with the start of production of the Taigun. A thoroughbred Volkswagen, the Taigun retains the German engineering prowess, while achieving a localization level of up to 95 percent. The Taigun has been designed to meet the needs of the discerning Indian customer and will be a competitive product offering in the fast-growing mid-size SUV segment.”

Sharing his excitement on the start of production and pre-bookings commencement, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “The Volkswagen Taigun has received an overwhelming feedback from customers and media colleagues. The Volkswagen Taigun will be powered by the brands’ globally renowned TSI technology and will be available with two engine options 1.0L and 1.5L respectively. Volkswagen now offers its TSI technology across its product line-up, offering customers the right mix of power and performance while being fuel efficient. Taigun will be offered with the following engine and gearbox combinations: 1.5L TSI mated to 7-speed DSG and 6-speed Manual gearbox and 1.0L TSI engine mated to a 6-speed Automatic and Manual gearbox.
