Covaxin maker's nasal Covid vaccine cleared for emergency use, announces Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi: Bharat Biotech’s needle-free intranasal vaccine against Covid-19 has gained emergency use approval in India Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed on Tuesday.

The Minister said the step will further strengthen India's collective fight against the pandemic.

The vaccine could be delivered through naval route.

"Big Boost to India's Fight Against COVID-19! Bharat Biotech's ChAd36-SARS-CoV-S COVID-19 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vectored) recombinant nasal vaccine approved by @CDSCO_INDIA_INF  for primary immunization against COVID-19 in 18+ age group for restricted use in emergency situation," the Minister tweeted.

"This step will further strengthen our collective fight against the pandemic. India has harnessed its science, R&D, and human resources in the fight against COVID-19 under PM @NarendraModi  Ji's leadership. With the science-driven approach & Sabka Prayas, we will defeat COVID-19," he said.

 India reported 4,417 new Covid-19 cases while the toll went up by 23 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said Tuesday.

In the same span of time, 6,032 Covid-19 patients have recovered from across the country.

The active cases, which now stand at 52,336, forms 0.12% of the total number of infections.

The recovery rate now stands at 98.69%.

Under the national vaccination drive, 213.72 crore anti-Covid vaccine doses have been administered in the country.
