Washington/IBNS: At least 61 people died in the United States due to an Arctic cyclone over the past week, NBC News reported on Saturday.

On Friday, the broadcaster reported that 47 people had succumbed to winter and cold-related conditions since Jan 12.

The largest number of disaster victims was registered in the states of Tennessee and Oregon, the report said.

Last week, many regions of the central part of the United States were hit by record frosts and heavy snowfalls.

Chicago city in Illinois experienced a long stretch of extreme cold weather that was not seen in the last 30 years.
