India records below 60,000 fresh COVID cases for first time in 81 days

New Delhi/IBNS: For the first time in over 80 days, India recorded fresh COVID-19 cases below 60,000. The south Asian country registered 58,419 new cases in the last 24 hours.

India's active caseload also declined to 7,29,243 with 2,87,66,009 total recoveries across the country so far.

Daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 38th consecutive day, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Currently, the weekly positivity rate remains below 5 per cent, at 3.43 pct.

The testing capacity has been substantially ramped up – 39.10 cr total tests conducted so far.

Till date, 27.66 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.
