India registers 27,553 new COVID-19 infections in last 24 hrs, country's Omicron tally touches 1,525

New Delhi/IBNS: In a worrying situation, India registered 27,553 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

About 284 people died due to the virus during the same period, the data showed.

So far, a total of 1,525 people in India have contracted the Omicron variant since the first case was detected in November, data from the ministry said.

Maharashtra, which has reported the most number of COVID-19 cases, has 460 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi with 351 infections.

India's active caseload currently stands at 1,22,801 while the recovery rate currently stands at 98.27 percent.

A total of 9,249 recoveries in the last 24 hours, increasing the total tally to 3,42,84,561.

Meanwhile, 145.44 cr vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
