India registers 6,317 COVID-19 cases amid Omicron scare
New Delhi; India, a nation which is witnessing a slow rise in micron variant cases, registered 6,317 new COVID-19 cases overall in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health released data on Wednesday.
During the same period, 318 people died due to the deadly virus.
India's Active caseload currently stands at 78,190; lowest in 575 days.
Active cases account for less than 1 percent of total cases and currently stands at 0.22 percent.
Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.40 percent.
6,906 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.
The Centre on Tuesday warned the states that the Omicron strain is three times as infectious as the Delta variant of coronavirus and war rooms must be activated to contain it.
In a letter by Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, the states have been called for "even greater foresight, data analysis and dynamic decision making".
Laying the basic guidelines for threshold limits, the Centre has said the states and Union Territories must take "containment measures, curbs even before thresholds are reached."
Besides Omicron, the Delta variant is "still present" in different parts of the country, the letter warned.
