New Delhi/IBNS: Amid the fear of the Omicron variant, 8,774 new COVID-19 cases were registered in India in the last 24 hours, the union health ministry stated Sunday.

India's active caseload stands at 1,05,691, which is the lowest in 543 days.

As per the health ministry, active cases account for less than 1 percent of total cases, currently at 0.31 per cent.

The recovery rate is currently at 98.34 percent, which is the highest since March 2020.

Around 9,481 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, which pushed the total recoveries to 3,39,98,278.

Meanwhile, 121.94 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday directed officials to review plans of easing international travel restrictions.

At the meeting, Modi highlighted the need for monitoring all international arrivals, their testing as per guidelines, with a specific focus on countries identified ‘at risk’, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) statement said.

He directed the officials that genome sequencing samples be collected from international travellers and community as per norms, tested through the network of labs already established under Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), and early warning signal identified for Covid-19 management.
