Kerala registers 23 COVID deaths, 8,553 new +ve cases: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: Kerala reported 23 deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday whereas 8,553 people tested positive to the virus and 4,851 have recovered from the disease and 84,497 patients are under treatment, the state Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

"Of the positive cases reported today, 7,527 people were infected through contact and the source of infection was not traceable in 716 cases. Total 99 healthcare workers were among those infected. 30 of those detected with the disease have arrived from foreign countries and 181, from other states," the Minister said in a press release here this evening.

Meanwhile, 23 recent deaths in the State were confirmed as due to Covid, taking the death toll to 836. Krishnan Nair (83), Ashokan (75), Josephine Franklin (72), Rajayyan (80), Robert (53), Jayanthi (50), Annachi Perumal Achari (90) & Devaraj (55) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Devarajan (63) from Kollam district; Abdul Samad (62), Safia Beevi (67), Mariakutty (68) & Rosamma (59) from Alappuzha district, Nakulan (62) & Rosy Joseph (89) from Ernakulam district, Chammini (63) from Palakkad district; Hasbulla (68), Muhammad (58), Kunjimoideen Haji (87), Biriyakutty (77), Fathima (83) & Mohammad Ali (50) from Malappuram district and Mohammad Kunhi (68) from Kannur district, are the deceased.
