Kerala reports over 12000 Covid cases, 23 deaths in last 24 hrs

Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: Kerala reported 12,742 fresh Covid-19 cases and 23 fatalities in the past 24 hours, taking the state death toll to 50,254, health department said on Wednesday.

About 2,552 people have recovered from the disease today (Wednesday), a press release from the health department said.

"Meanwhile, 23 recent deaths were confirmed due to COVID today. About 176 deaths were also added to the list based on appeals seeking its inclusion in the list taking the death toll in the State to 50,254," the release added.

About 72,808 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. Currently, 1,41,293 people are under observation in the State -- 1,38,264 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 3,029 in hospitals.

On Wednesday, 420 people infected with the virus were admitted to hospitals in the state. Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 10 per cent at six wards where strict restriction is being imposed.
