Kolkata, Aug 22 (IBNS) Cardiac arrest claims around 20 lakh lives annually in India alone and to advocate a change and bring about awareness, Kolkata's Fortis Hospital launched its latest program 'Attack The Attack' on Friday in Kolkata.

Leading Bengali band, Chandrabindoo have extended their support to this cause by composing the campaign song.

The hospital also launched a website, www.kolkata.attacktheattack.com to educate the people about various issues relating to heart diseases and techniques to get rid of them.

Speaking on the issue, Dr Soumitra Kumar said, “We should not waste a single minute after we feel pain near the chest area. The first one hour is the golden hour and has the maximum chance of revival.”

The doctor added, “Any pain lasting more than 15 minutes must not be avoided at any cost, my request to anybody and everybody is please rush to your nearby hospital and get yourself thoroughly checked, it might just save you.”

David Rozario, Senior cardiac Consultant, said, “Cardiac arrests have claimed more lives than world war one and two put together. Timing is a crucial factor. React as quickly as possible to avoid anything serious.”

Suvanan Roy, Chief Cardiologist at Fortis Hospital said, “The death toll has risen from 29 million in 2000 to 60 million in 2015. The difference between the West and the east is vast. India alone counts for 64 percent mortality rate. The percentage of people getting optimal care in India is too less, this has to change.”

The hospital also invited patients who have successfully recovered from the grasp of cardiac arrest. Each shared their experiences of how timely treatment saved the day for them.

Fortis have collaborated with radio station Radio Mirchi, who will serve as their fm partner and help in promoting the awareness.

They will also host a walkathon on Sept 29 to mark World Heart Day. This event will be initiated in front of the Victoria Memorial.

The hospital will also host another campaign on Sept 6 in South City. It will be attended by the team of doctors, Chandrabindoo and RJ Mir.
