Mumbai/IBNS: Mumbai on Wednesday witnessed a 39 percent jump in daily cases as it recorded 15,166 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest tally since the outbreak of pandemic in 2020.

Three more virus-related deaths were reported during this period in the financial capital.

Mumbai had registered 11,163 cases in a day on April 4, 2021, at the peak of the second wave.

Meanwhile, 26,538 cases were recorded in 24 hours in Maharashtra with eight related deaths. The new cases are 43 percent higher than Tuesday.

Of the new cases, 87 percent are asymptomatic.

Mumbai has already imposed several restrictions in an attempt to check the rise in cases.

Beaches, open grounds, sea faces, promenades, parks, and other public places have been made off-limits to people in the city between 5 pm and 5 am till Jan 15.
