PM to hold review meeting on Thursday amid growing Omicron cases
New Delhi/IBNS: The Omicron cases in India have jumped to 213 with Delhi and Maharashtra reporting the highest number of cases. Amid the rising infections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a review meeting tomorrow, media reports said.
Delhi has reported 57 cases and Maharashtra 54. This apart, Telangana has reported 24 Omicron cases, Karnataka 19, Rajasthan 18, Kerala 15, and Gujarat 14.
Three cases have been reported in Jammu Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh and Odisha have reported two cases each.
One case each has been reported by Andhra Pradesh, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The Centre has already asked the states to activate war rooms, bring back curbs and impose night curfew to contain the spread of the highly transmissible variant of coronavirus.
In a letter, the Union home ministry called for greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making and strict and from containment action.
The states/ union territories have been asked to be prompt and focused and take containment measures and restrictions even before these threshold are reached.
Besides Omicron, the Delta variant is still present, the health ministry warned the states.
On Wednesday, India reported 6317 new infections which is a jump of 18 percent from yesterday's 5326 cases.
The active cases have dropped to 78,190 the lowest in 575 days.
There have been 318 deaths over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths in the pandemic to 4.78 lakhs.
