Kolkata, Aug 3 (IBNS): Siddha Group in association with Indian Army, Eastern Region, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Centre for Contemporary Communication celebrated Forest Week recently in Kolkata by organizing a mass tree plantation at Maidan.

Debasish Kumar, Member Mayor –in- Council, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Lt. General Raman Dhawan, GOC, Bengal Command, Sanjay Jain, Managing Director, Siddha Group and Tapati Ghosh, Director, CCC  were present.

More than hundred children from 20 city schools like La Martiniere Boys and Girls, Army Public School, Mahadevi Birla, Assembly of God Church etc. participated in the plantation.

“Today pollution and global warming has become the biggest threats to the society. I admire the response that we got from the city schools. Its time  to become dutiful towards our city”, said  Lt.   General  Raman Dhawan.

Almost 500 trees were planted on Thursday while the rest 1,600 will be planted along the week. Kolkata Municipal Corporation has arranged for tree guards to support survival of the trees.

“The Government of West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has always reared the idea of ‘green city , clean city’, we feel proud to have been a part of such initiative,” said Debasish Kumar, Member Mayor-in-Council, KMC.

The plantation programme is a wing of the Siddha Group campaigns “Be Selfish”, which urges people to reduce bills, switch off, shut tap, drink more water, and plant a tree and breath fresh.

Their upcoming plans are ‘Mission Earth’ that aims to plant 50,000 trees by 2015.

“Research has shown that carefully planted trees can lower summertime temperatures in cities, significantly reducing the air conditioning bills and trap initiative to promote the awareness about tree plantation and green environment which can significantly reduce environmental risks and ecological scarcities”, said Sanjay Jain, MD, Siddha Group.

Siddha Group is an estate developer and marketer with offices in Kolkata and Jaipur.
