Mumbai/IBNS: Prepaid recharge plans in India are getting expensive as the hiked tariffs earlier announced by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel go live today, Wednesday (July 3).

This hike in tariff impacts both prepaid and postpaid users, potentially affecting millions of subscribers of the country's two leading telecom networks.

Both telecom giants, however, will continue to offer their monthly, quarterly, and annual plans, despite the tariff hike.

A major change that the telecom majors have introduced is that users will only get 5G unlimited data with plans offering 2GB daily data or more.

Earlier, users had to recharge with plans above Rs 239 to get 5G.

Bharti Airtel has introduced new tariffs across a range of its popular plans, with the telecom company aiming to balance affordability and enhanced service offerings.

Some of the popular revised prepaid plans of Bharti Airtel include:

1GB/day for 28 days: Now priced at Rs 299, up from the previous Rs 265.

1.5GB/day for 28 days: Increased to Rs 349, from Rs 299.

2GB/day for 28 days: Now at Rs 409, previously Rs 359.

1.5GB/day for 84 days: Revised to Rs 859, up from Rs 719.

2GB/day for 84 days: Priced at Rs 979, previously Rs 839.

2.5GB/day for 365 days: Now at Rs 3599, up from Rs 2999.

Besides prepaid plans, postpaid plans are also getting expensive from today as Airtel has also hiked the tariffs between 15-22 percent for the customers.

The telecom giant has also said that its customers will only receive 5G with 2GB daily data plans.

Meanwhile, Reliance Jio has also hiked both its prepaid and postpaid plans' tariffs. Jio's Rs 155 plan will now cost Rs 189 from today.

The Reliance Group-owned telecom service provider has also increased the data add-on vouchers' cost as the price of 1GB data voucher has gone up from Rs 15 to Rs 19.

Jio’s two popular annual prepaid plans, previously priced at Rs 1,559 and Rs 2,999, will now cost at Rs 1,899 and Rs 3,599, respectively.
