CEO Tim Cook officially opens India's 2nd Apple store in Delhi's Saket amid cheers and applause

New Delhi/IBNS: Apple CEO Tim Cook welcomed customers to India's second Apple retail store in New Delhi’s Saket.

The iPhone maker’s second retail store in India called 'Apple Saket' opened in South Delhi’s posh neighbourhood Saket at the Select Citywalk Mall.

Apple CEO Tim Cook inaugurated the store along with Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's senior vice president of Retail + People.

In a Tweet, Cook called it an "incredible reception" while thanking Delhi. Excited gadget enthusiasts were seen taking selfies with Cook as he threw open the doors of the second India store to loud cheers and claps.

Last Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook had inaugurated India's first retail store in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

The newly opened Apple retail store in Delhi is smaller than Mumbai’s 20,000 square feet-two-level store, but it gathers importance as it marks the first-ever Apple store in the national capital and the second in India.

The Delhi Apple store features a dedicated Apple Pickup station, allowing customers to conveniently order their devices online and pick them up at the store at a time that suits them.

"Like all Apple facilities, Apple Saket and Apple's operations in India run on 100 percent renewable energy and are carbon neutral," a statement added.

Apple said the store has more than 70 highly skilled retail team members who come from a combined 18 states in India and collectively speak more than 15 languages.

"Genius Bar appointments can help with everything from setting up a device, recovering an Apple ID, selecting an AppleCare plan, or modifying subscriptions," it added.

Tim Cook’s India visit is also high on business as he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apple is looking to expand its manufacturing presence in India, and its Taiwanese contractors, Foxconn and Wistron, have already begun assembling iPhones in the country.

Despite being the world's second-largest smartphone maker, Apple has a relatively small market share of 6% in India due to the high prices of its devices.

The company is looking to expand its manufacturing operations in India and Vietnam, as an alternative to China, where it currently manufactures a majority of its products.
