E-filing portal glitches: Finance ministry summons Infosys CEO Salil Parekh

Bengaluru/UNI: The Ministry of Finance has summoned Infosys CEO and Managing Director Salil Parekh on Monday to explain the reason for the company failing to resolve the glitches in the e-filing portal.

"Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh, MD & CEO @Infosys on 23/08/2021 to explain to hon'ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of the new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available," the Finance Ministry said in a tweet.

This is the second time that the finance ministry has summoned Parekh regarding the glitches.

During his first meeting with the officials of the finance ministry on June 22, Parekh had given an assurance to rectify the problem in a time-bound manner.

Since then, resolving the glitches in the income tax department filing portal became the company's priority with Infosys COO Pravin Rao assuring the stakeholders at the earnings conference last month.

In 2019, Infosys had won a Rs 4,242-crore contract to develop the new income tax filing portal, out of which Rs 164.5 crore was paid till June.

After several complaints filed by the users, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sought an explanation from Infosys and asked it to resolve the issues immediately.

Prior to the I-T portal, the users had issues with the company's GST portal and also had to face the ire of the government for problems with the portal for the corporate affairs ministry.
