India International Mega Trade Fair in Kolkata to continue till December 25

Kolkata/IBNS: The India International Mega Trade Fair, which will be held until December 25, was inaugurated by Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankar in the presence of dignitaries from five nations.

The Governor appreciated the holding of the fair and said it heightened the prestige of a state to which belongs Rabindranath Tagore and several Nobel Laureates.

In this 18th edition of the fair, participants have come from 15 countries and 21 Indian states with Karnataka and Maharashtra being partner states.

The fair is focusing on 15 sectors, - tourism, jute products and IT among others.

According to the organisers, the Bengal Chamber and GS Marketing Associates, this year there was a 20 per cent rise in exhibitors from last year.

For the first time, there was a special stall for all those who wanted to clarify doubts about the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
 

Lyonpo Loknath Sharma, Minister for Economic Affairs of Bhutan, said, “This is a global market and Calcutta is in the heart of it.”
Touffique Hasan, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, said, “Trade ties between India and Bangladesh have reached new heights as trade volume reaches 9 billion US dollars.”

B B Chatterjee, President, The Bengal Chamber, said, “We feel extremely honoured that so many exhibitors from across India and abroad have come together on this platform today not only to exhibit their products but to network and engage to ultimately grow economic value for the state and the country. This surely is an indicator of the potential of the state's competitiveness as far as B2B and B2C business models in West Bengal are concerned.”

18th edition of India International Mega Trade Fair(IIMTF) focuses on innovative ideas in LifeStyle, Interiors, International products, Food, Automobile, Handicrafts and Handlooms, Electronics, Education and IT, MSME, Jute Products, Tourism etc. The First India International Mega Trade Fair started in Kolkata in 2004 with 185 exhibitors.
