Indian benchmark indices close negative on Tuesday

Mumbai, Dec 12 (IBNS): Selling pressure in the concluding part of the business day forced the Indian market to end Tuesday on a negative note, with  BSE Sensex down 227.80 points at 33227.99 and NSE Nifty down 82.10 points at 10240.20.

Top gainers on Tuesday included Dr Reddy's Labs, Adani Ports, ONGC, Infosys, GAIL and Lupin while HPCL, Bharti Infratel, Tata Power, BPCL, Coal India, Cipla, Hero Motocorp, TCS and Idea Cellular declined.

Tuesday was the last day for campaigning for the two-phase Gujarat Assembly poll. The second phase poll will be held on Thursday.
