Indian benchmark indices open on a tepid note on first day of new year

Mumbai, Jan 1 (IBNS): Indian benchmark indices began the New Year on a flat note, with BSE Sensex up 11.14 points at 34067.97 and Nifty down 11.40 points or 0.11% at 10519.30 when the market opened on Monday, according to reports.

As of mid-day, the both Sensex and Nifty continue to trade in a tight range, reports said.

According to media reports, market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), during its last board meeting for 2017 on December 28, said that no entity can have stake in more than one mutual fund up to over 10 per cent.
