Indian Chamber of Commerce mourns death of Arun Jaitley
New Delhi, Aug 24 (IBNS): The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on Saturday condoled the demise of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
"The Indian Chamber of Commerce deeply mourns the passing away of Mr. Arun Jaitley, an outstanding Parliamentarian and the face behind many transformations of the Indian economy," the ICC said in a statement.
"During his long political career, Mr. Jaitley held many ministerial responsibilities and actively contributed towards India's economic growth, strengthening our defence capabilities and enhancing trade with other nations," it said.
"ICC had the privilege to work very closely with him in carrying forward economic agenda. His contribution to Indian economy and polity will forever be remembered. Our condolences to the family and his colleagues," read the statement.
Former Union Finance Minister, legal luminary, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart and a chief trouble shooter of the first Narendra Modi government, Arun Jaitley passed away at the age of 66 at AIIMS here on Saturday finally losing the battle with protracted illness.
He breathed his last at 12:07 pm.
A lawyer by profession, Jaitley is survived by his wife Sangeeta, a son and a daughter who also joined the legal profession. He was admitted to the AIIMS on August 9 with complaints of breathing problems.
