Indian  Market: Sensex down 1707.94 pts

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Monday dropped 1707.94 pts to settle at 47,883.38 fearing that the government could go for stricter lockdowns to contain the second wave of Covid-19 and hampering the economic recovery.

The Nifty too eased by 524.05 pts to 14,310.80.

The day began on a negative note, as the Sensex fell by 635 pts to open at 48,956.65.

During the day it was tanked 1898 pts to 47,693.44, days low before closing at 47,883.38, down 1707.94 pts from its previous close.

The sensex registered days high and low at 48,956.65 and 47,693.44 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 14,652.50 and 14,248.70 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices that fell were Realty by more than 7 pc followed by Industrials, Finance, Metal and Materials stocks more than 5 per cent.

In scrips, IndusInd Bank was worst hit, down 8.60 pc followed by Bajaj Finance by 7.39 pc to Rs 4512.95, ONGC by 5.54 pc to Rs 98.05 and Titan by 5.24 pc to Rs 508.40.

The Mid Cap slipped by 5.32 pc and Small Cap by 4.81 pc.
