Indian Market: Sensex drops 259.52 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Friday slipped further by 259.52 pts to close at 62,979.37 as heavy selling was seen in Commodities, Oil and Gas, Power and Metal stocks.

The Nifty too fell 105.75 pts at 18,665.50 pts.

The Sensex fell 114 pts at 63,124.28 pts in early trade.

Throughout the day, it was lost 364 pts at 62,874, days low, before closing at 62,979.37, slumping 259.52 pts from its previous close.

The stocks like Commodities, Oil and Gas, Metal and Power kept the market under pressure for another session.

Commodities eased 1.87 pc, followed by Oil and Gas by1.74 pc, Metal by 1.61 pc and Power by 1.24 pc.

In scrips, Tata Steel was a major loser, down 1.62 pc to Rs 109.30 followed by Powergrid by 1.52 pc to Rs 249.80, Tata Motors by 1.50 pc to Rs 560.75, SBI by 1.40 pc to Rs 555.10 and Infosys by 1.27 pc to Rs 1266.30.

The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 2.68 pc to Rs 1307.50, Asian Paints by 1.47 pc to Rs 3295.65, NTPC by 1.11 pc to Rs 186.50, Bharti Airtel by 0.87 pc to Rs 850.10 and HCL Technology by 0.40 pc to Rs 1168.

The Mid cap drifted lower by 1.24 pc and Small cap by 1.17 pc.

In 30 scrips, 7advanced while 23 declined.
