Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Wednesday rose 88 pts at 55,654.86 in opening session as buying was seen in Materials, Energy, Bankex and Capital Goods stocks.
The Nifty rose 25 pts at 16,609.55.
The sensex registered days high and low at 55,791.44 and 55,407.47 pts respectively.
The Nifty registered days high and low at 16,649.20 and 16,537.90 pts respectively.
The Mid cap moved up 0.31 pc and Small Cap by 0.91 pc.
In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.
The gainers were NTPC by 2.27 pc to Rs 159.70, Tata Steel by 1.76 pc to Rs 1074.15, Asian Paints by 1.43 pc to Rs 2901, Kotak Bank by 0.85 pc to Rs 1870 and HDFC Bank by 0.71 pc to Rs 1397.35.
The losers were Nestle India by 1.44 pc to Rs 17,515, M& M 1.32 pc to Rs 1020.30, Hind Unilever by 1.28 pc to Rs 2319.60 and Sun Pharma by 1.25 pc to Rs 850.
