Indian Market: Sensex spurts 433.30 points

Mumbai: The equity market remained strong for a third straight session on Monday as the BSE Sensex rallied 433.30 points to close at 53,161.28 following gains in technology, capital goods, IT and metal stocks.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose 132.80 points at 15,832.05.

The Sensex opened strong at 53,468, up 741 points. It surged 782 points at 53,509.50, the day's high, before closing at 53,161.28, advancing 433.30 points from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 53,509.50 and 53,120.79 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 15,927.45 and 15,815.50 respectively.

Sectoral indices like technology, metal, capital goods and IT stocks kept the market firm.
In scrips, L and T surged 2.99 per cent to Rs 1,540, a major gainer in the 30 scrips of BSE, followed by HCL Technology by 2.62 per cent to Rs 991.85, Infosys by 2.44 per cent to Rs 1,477.25, Tech Mahindra by 2.41 per cent to Rs 1,004.55 and Bharti Airtel by 2.31 per cent to Rs 686.

The losers were Kotak Bank by 0.45 per cent to Rs 1,690.05, Reliance Industries by 0.19 per cent to Rs 2,496 and Titan by 0.07 per cent to Rs 2,044.

The Mid cap rose by 0.87 per cent and Small Cap by 1.57 per cent. In 30 scrips, 27 advanced while 3 declined.
