Seoul, May 29 (UNI): India’s airlines’ traffic came down by 0.5 per cent year-over-year, due to shut down of the saddled airline Jet Airways.

This marked the first time in six years that monthly domestic traffic declined compared to the year-ago period, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said while announcing the global passenger traffic results for April 2019.

“India’s airlines’ traffic actually fell 0.5 per cent year-over-year, reflecting the impact of the shut-down of Jet Airways. This marked the first time in six years that monthly domestic traffic declined compared to the year-ago period,” the international association said.

The Association said that the demand for domestic travel climbed 2.8 per cent in April compared to April 2018, down from 4.1 per cent growth in March year-over-year.

It added that the slowing trend is being driven primarily by developments in China and India.

Earlier, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the number of passengers on domestic routes was decreased by 4.5 per cent in April.
