Kolkata: Tata Steel officials, with the help of the West Bengal Police, recently conducted a raid on a manufacturing unit situated in Kolkata, the company said in a press release.

On April 10, 2023, Tata Steel officials, in collaboration with the West Bengal Police, conducted a raid on a manufacturing unit located in Kolkata, for infringing the Tata brand name and allegedly manufacturing and selling fake Tata bearing products illegally.

The Tata Bearing branded products are packaged in a unique manner and all original products are sold with the same packaging by authorised dealers and distributors only.

The products were being manufactured and sold under the registered ‘TATA’ trademark in similar packaging in an attempt to deceive consumers into believing that they were purchasing genuine Tata products.

Upon receiving information about the unscrupulous activity, Tata Steel along with the West Bengal Police conducted the raid on the unit on April 10, 2023, and seized huge quantities of Tata Bearing outer boxes, packaging material, price labels, and other related items.

The party responsible for this activity has been charged under sections 120 B, 420 of the Indian Penal Code 1860, and sections 63, 65 of the Copyright Act 1957, said the press release.

Tata Steel’s products possess tremendous goodwill in the minds of the consumers by virtue of the quality of the products and the unauthorized use of its brand name on counterfeit products has caused damage to its reputation.

Tata Steel strongly condemns the misuse of its trademarks and logos without prior permission. To protect its brand reputation and goodwill, Tata Steel's brand protection team is continuously monitoring and taking actions against entities that are infringing on the brand's intellectual property rights, including counterfeiters.

Tata Steel will continue to monitor and take action against any such illegal activities that negatively impact its assets and customers. The company urges consumers to only purchase Tata Steel products from authorized dealers and distributors to ensure the authenticity of the product.
