METRO Cash & Carry stays strong in great places to work
The latest survey conducted by Great Place To Work Institute India in association with the Retailers Association of India, reaffirmed METRO’s commitment to its employees and their role in the company’s success.
Having embarked on an ambitious expansion plan, METRO Cash & Carry India closed 2015 with nineteen wholesale distribution centres including four in Bangalore, three in Hyderabad, two each in Delhi and Mumbai, and one each in Kolkata, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Zirakpur, Amritsar, Vijayawada and Indore.
The company takes pride in being the only wholesale company in the entire list of retail/wholesale companies nominated for the survey. Ranked 2nd last year in the same list, METRO competed against brands such as Lifetsyle, Marks & Spencer, Benetton, Bharti Retail, Jubilant Foods and Levi’s.
METRO was the first B2B wholesaler to enter the Indian market in 2003 and at present has a headcount of about 3200 employees. Cutting-edge HR practices such as innovative employee engagement initiatives, dynamic career growth opportunities and a progressive organisational structure are a few factors which helped METRO bag the honour last year.
This year, initiatives such as Unnati, an extended education programme as well as focused career development programmes such as Neev and METRO Potentials has proven to create immense value across all levels of management. METRO has also launched a grassroots-level movement across the company to encourage employees to experiment, ideate and learn from their mistakes, through a unique Innovation campaign called METRO Blue Bulb.
Speaking on the occasion, Sagarika Ghoshal, Director, HR, METRO Cash & Carry India said, “Being ranked the 2nd Best Retail Company in the GPTW Survey is matter of great pride for METRO. This year’s award inspires us to go further in our efforts towards providing our employees with a positive, energetic and motivational work environment, in an industry that is extremely demanding.”
