Ola gives 50 cars to partner drivers as part of MoU with WBTIDCL

Kolkata, Sep 14 (IBNS): Indian-origin online transportation network company Ola has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  with the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (WBTIDCL), according to which Ola will create 5,000 entrepreneurial opportunities.

The first phase of the MoU was launched recently in Kolkata with Ola giving 50 new cars to their driver partners.

West Bengal's Transport & Environment Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, was present at the programme along with B.P.Gopalika, I.A.S, Principal Secretary, WB Transport Department, Dinesh Bajaj, Chairman WBTIDCL, Tapan Kanti Rudra, Director of Transport, Biswajt Dutta Commissioner Transport Department, Sandeep Upadhyay, Regional Head – South & East Zone, Ola and Avik Das, City head – Ola Fleet Technologies.

The cars are attached on the Ola platform under the company’s leasing arm, Ola Fleet Technologies.

Ola has ensured that driver partners received digital and safety related training as well as know about other benefits such as insurance.

Said Suvendu Adhikari, “This is a great employment opportunity that Ola is providing. In March 2018, we signed a few MoUs, this one with Ola was among them. We allotted Rs 350 crore to this initiative. All those with a driving license and those who have registered themselves on the employment bank are getting newer work opportunities from this MoU.”

B.P. Gopalika, I.A.S, Principal Secretary, said, “In the first phase of this MoU with Ola, we are giving out 50 cars. I am really happy that that companies like Ola who work tirelessly to provide service to our citizens have done something of this scale and that to in such a short period of time, the whole purpose of the MoU was this.”

Sanjay Upadhyay, Regional Head – South & East Zone, said, “We are proud to kick of our mission of 5,000 job opportunities with the first 50 batch of cars here in West Bengal. As part of Ola’s mission to build mobility for a billion people, we are creating more and more entrepreneurial opportunities for driver partners on our platforms.”

Founded in 2011, Ola is functional in four cities of West Bengal, namely Kolkata, Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri, with various offerings, including Ola Micro, Ola Mini, Ola Prime, Ola Share, Kaali Peelis, Ola Rentals and Ola Outstations.
