Rupee down by 23 paise against USD

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) The Rupee on Wednesday fell by 23 paise to 69.85 against the USD Dollar in early trade on higher demand for US Dollars by bankers and exporters, dealers at forex market said.

The domestic unit fell because strong Dollar against other world currencies.

However, lower crude prices and a higher opening of the domestic equity markets restricted fall of the domestic currency to some extent, they added.

The Indian currency registered intra day high and low at 69.90 and 69.76 respectively.

On Tuesday, the rupee had appreciated by five paise to settle at 69.62 against the US dollar.
