Rupee tanks 17 paise against USD

Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) The Rupee on Wednesday slipped 17 paise to 71.18 in opening trade on rising demand for US Dollars by bankers and importers, dealers at the Forex Market said.

The local unit registered intra-day high and low at 71.22 and 71.05 respectively.

Forex dealers said firm Dollar against other world currencies kept the domestic unit down, they added.
