Sensex, Nifty ends in green as market closes

The BSE Sensex on Friday posted huge gains of 440.33 pts to close high at 72,085.63 on the strength of oil and gas, metal, and IT stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 156.35 points to 21,853.80.

The NSE registered days high and low at 22,126.80 and 21,805.55 points, respectively.

The Sensex opened on a strong note at 71,977.56, up 332 points. During the day, it spiked 1444 points at 73,089.40, days high, before closing at 72,085.63, rallying 440.33 points from its previous close.

The stocks, which include oil and gas, metal, utilities, and IT, lifted the market. Oil and gas surged by 4.22 pc, followed by metal by 2.95 pc, utilities by 2.18 pc, and IT by 2.17 pc.

The Mid Cap was moved up 0.80 pc and the Small Cap by 0.49 pc.

In 30 scrips, 21 advanced while 9 declined.

The gainers were Powergrid by 4.10 pc to Rs 276.70, NTPC by 3.34 pc to Rs 332.50, TCS by 2.98 pc to Rs 3966.35, Tata Steel by 2.89 pc to Rs 138.70, and JSW Steel by 2.74 pc to Rs 823.80.

The losers were Axis Bank by 1.42 pc to Rs 1068.75, HDFC Bank by 1.33 pc to Rs 1446.85, Hind Unilever by 0.81 pc to Rs 2454.05, and ITC by 0.60 pc to Rs 440.20.
