Sensex opens at a new peak of 54,755.58 pts

Mumbai/UNI: BSE Sensex on Tuesday surged by 352 pts to 54,755.58 on brisk buying in Energy, Finance, Industrials and IT stocks.

The Nifty too gained 84.45 points at 16,278.30.

The Sensex registered its intra-day high and low at 54,759.67 and 54,450.34 points respectively.

The Nifty registered its intra-day high and low at 16,354.10 and 16,261.05 points respectively.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.19 pc while the Small-Cap fell by 0.14 pc. In 30 scrips, 20 advanced while 10 declined.

The gainers were Kotak Bank by 1.95 pc to Rs 1,815.40, Tech Mahindra by 1.47 pc to Rs 1,305.85, M & M by 1.46 pc to Rs 786.25 and Reliance Industries by 1.32 pc to Rs 2,104.65.

The losers were Powergrid by 1.59 pc to Rs 173.65, Bajaj Auto by 0.39 pc to Rs 3,840.30, ITC by 0.51 pc to Rs 212.95 and SBI by 0.35 pc to Rs 431.90.
