Sensex surges 634 points to close at 63782.80

Snapping a losing streak of the last six sessions, the BSE Sensex on Friday surged 634.65 points to close at 63782.80 as buying was seen in power, utilities, and real estate stocks amid a positive Asian market.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 190 points to 19,047.25.

The Sensex opened on a strong note at 63,148 in the opening trade. Later, it was advanced by 765 points and 64,913.13 days high before closing at 63,782.80, up 634.65 points from its previous close.

Stocks like Power, Utilities, Industrials, Realty, and Financial Services lifted the market.

The gainers were utilities, which were up by 2.22 pc, power by 2.04 pc, industrials by 1.63 pc, and BSE services by 0.79 pc.

The gainers were Axis Bank by 2.93 pc to Rs 1000.45, HCL Technologies by 2.90 pc to Rs 1267.20, SBI by 2.66 pc to Rs 561.70, NTPC by 2.33 pc to Rs 237.05, and Tata Motors by 2.31 pc to Rs 640.95.

The losers were Ultracemco by 0.09 pc to Rs 8205 and ITC by 0.03 pc to Rs 433.95.

The midcap rose by 1.70 pc and the small cap by 1.89 pc.

In 30 scrips, 28 advanced while 2 declined.
