SpiceJet soars! Shares jump 7.66% as airline expands fleet amid IndiGo chaos

Mumbai/IBNS: SpiceJet’s share price continued its upward rally for the third straight session amid the week-long operational disruption faced by rival IndiGo, according to media reports.

The stock surged 7.66% to hit an intraday high of Rs. 34.99 on the BSE on Tuesday. Over the past three trading sessions, the airline’s shares have jumped more than 15%, offering a strong boost to the private carrier.

The rally comes as SpiceJet inducted five additional Boeing 737 aircraft, including one Boeing 737 MAX, into its fleet. With this, the airline’s operational fleet strength has risen to 35 aircraft, all of which have already begun commercial operations.

The enhanced fleet capacity has helped SpiceJet significantly increase connectivity across high-demand domestic and international routes.

The expansion arrives at a crucial time, giving a substantial push to the airline’s winter schedule, as passenger traffic surges during the festive and holiday season. As of September 30, 2025, SpiceJet operated 100 daily flights.

With the new aircraft joining service, the airline’s daily operations have now expanded to 176 flights per day.

Commenting on the development, Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer of SpiceJet, said: "SpiceJet’s winter expansion is a reflection of the strong demand in the market and our readiness to meet it.

"With 15 new aircraft joining our fleet and daily flights surging to 176, we are not only expanding our footprint but also reinforcing our commitment to reliable, affordable, and convenient air travel for millions of passengers."
