Standard Chartered to donate INR 5 crore to support fight against COVID-19
New Delhi/IBNS: Standard Chartered Bank on Wednesday announced its commitment to donate INR 5 crore to support the fight against COVID-19 virus in India.
Keeping with its philosophy of affecting a real change in the communities and to provide the much-needed impetus in fighting this common threat, the Bank said it will be working with multiple non-government organisation (NGO) partners to provide relief to the vulnerable communities including the migrant workers.
The Bank, in the initial stages, will partner with United Way of Mumbai, Swades Foundation and CII Foundation for supply of rations, meals and essentials to the most-needy sections of the communities, who have been harshly impacted by this pandemic and are facing significant disruption in their livelihoods.
Among the vulnerable groups, migrant laborers have been worst affected during these trying times, as economic activity remains severely disrupted.
This activity will be undertaken across several parts of the country including major cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Baroda) and rural areas (Sundarbans, Jaunpur, Tonk and Marathwada).
Through these three partners, the Bank is expecting to cover the need of ration, meals and essentials of almost 70,000 beneficiaries across these locations.
Speaking about the commitment, Zarin Daruwala, CEO, India, Standard Chartered Bank, said, “COVID-19 is a challenge which is cutting across boundaries. It has also deeply impacted the masses who depended on daily wages for their survival. As a Bank which has been in the country for over 160 years, it becomes our duty to join this fight against COVID-19 and ensure a safe and healthy environment for our citizens and communities."
"One of the ways in which we bring our Here for good brand promise to life is by affecting real change in the communities that we operate,” she added.
