Tata Punch EV prices leaked from website ahead of launch: Company calls it technical glitch

Mumbai: The prices of Punch.ev have apparently leaked from Tata’s booking portal, according to many buyers who booked Punch EV, a report said.

Tata Motors unveiled its latest electric vehicle on Friday and opened the booking for Punch.ev or Tata Punch EV.

Punch EV marks the debut of the company's acti.ev pure-electric platform, which will serve as the foundation for future products.

While official prices are yet to be disclosed, several Punch EV buyers reported receiving a price quotation for their booked variant via email from Tata Motors, RushLane reported.

A buyer (using the handle techgeeksid) who booked the Punch EV LR Adventure without a sunroof and with a 3.3 kW charger, received an email from Tata Motors quoting a price of Rs. 13,73,846 (ex-showroom), the report said.

Another buyer (using the handle Hariraj_Rathod) booked the top-spec Punch EV LR Empowered Plus with a sunroof and a 3.3 kW charger through Shreeji Automart dealership, and received an email quotation from Tata Motors for Rs. 16,13,729 (ex-showroom), the report added.

However, Tata Motors has clarified that this was not supposed to happen and referred to it as a glitch.

“Technical hiccup alert! The prices making the rounds of Punch.ev are because of a system glitch. We're actively addressing it, and the official prices will be disclosed at launch. Thanks for your patience! #SystemFix #StayTuned,” the company wrote on its X handle.

However, the company did not clarify whether the prices quoted were incorrect or accurate.

A similar set of events occurred during the launch of the Nexon facelift in September 2023, where the base model price was leaked as Rs. 7.39 lakh by the official Instagram handle tatanexonofficial.

The company's official response at that time included the term "inaccurate."

Subsequently, it was proven true as Nexon's prices started from Rs. 8.1 lakh.

Given this history, it is reasonable to assume that the quoted prices received by Punch EV buyers might indeed be accurate, as the company did not outright deny these leaked prices but referred to it as a glitch.
