Tata Steel inaugurates the Western Corridor

Jamshedpur/ Kolkata, June 27 (IBNS): The 11 kms long 4-lane Western Corridor constructed by Tata Steel, was inaugurated today by Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das.

The Western Corridor has been constructed to provide a safe, smooth and uninterrupted connectivity to the Jamshedpur city with the existing network of primary highways (NH & SH). It will also serve as a city bypass road.

Speaking on the occasion, Raghubar Das said, "Jamshedpur City, with a legacy of more than 100 years, has become a brand in itself. The Western Corridor is a giant leap towards industrial and infrastructural development of the State of Jharkhand. Tata Steel, guided by the vision of its Founder J N Tata has always believed and worked towards the development of community and prosperity of the state. I would like to congratulate the Tata Steel family for the successful completion of Western Corridor project."

TV Narendran, MD Tata Steel, India and SEA while extending his warm wishes to the people at the inauguration ceremony, said, "Tata Steel is committed to developing Jamshedpur as one of the best industrial towns in India. As part of the endeavor to develop the city infrastructure, the Western Corridor has been constructed in the steel city to help improve connectivity and address the traffic-related hassles. The Company will continue to give shape to such projects in future."

The Western Corridor will decongest the heavily populated residential area in the western side of the town. It starts from T junction at river pump house (leading to Mango Bridge) and follows the marine drive peripheral route all along the river banks of both Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers up‐to Betia Park/ATBCL Bridge.

3          Service Lane (two locations)   Length (Approx. 4 Km)

4          Service Lane (two locations)   Width (5 m to 7 m)

5          Main Road design speed- 50 Kmph

6          Service Road design speed- 30 Kmph

7          Main carriageway crust thickness- 605 mm

8          Service road crust thickness- 545 mm

9          Widened box type culvert- 9 nos.

10        Widened pipe culvert- 3 nos.

11        Major Junction developments- 6 nos.

12        Minor Junction developments- 7 nos.

13        River protection Gabion wall - 1, 24, 000 cum

14        RCC Retaining Wall- 650 m

15        Precast protection wall- 1020 m

16        “W” Beam Metal Beam Crash Barrier- 17,700 m

17        Bus Bay & Truck Lay Bay- 4 nos. & 2 nos.

18        Highway Street Poles with LED Lights- 550 nos.
