San Francisco: Union Minister Piyush Goyal interacted with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and venture capitalists (VCs) of Indian origin on the third day of his US visit.

He is presently in San Francisco to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), where agreements are being discussed related to topics like supply chain resilience.

During his interaction, the minister encouraged the participants to share ideas to make India more attractive to investors from around the world.

Goyal also shared his vision for the Indian startup ecosystem and urged the entrepreneurs and VCs present to contribute and help India’s young talent working in critical and emerging technological areas such as Artificial Intelligence.

Following the interaction, he wrote on X (formally twitter), “Had an engaging interaction with Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs & Venture Capitalists. Highlighted how India's young talent, vibrant business ecosystem & growing economy present the perfect opportunity for investments.”

After the interaction, he participated in a roundtable discussion with prominent academicians at Stanford University, where members of various universities, including Stanford, UC Berkeley, Fresno State, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, and the University of Silicon Andhra, deliberated on various relevant global issues.

The roundtable saw an active exchange of ideas on how India can collaborate and set up joint campuses with foreign universities, and institutions like Stanford.

On the third day of his visit to the United States, the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry also held one-to-one meetings with Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology and Neil Mohan, CEO of YouTube Inc.

The Minister discussed the prospects of these companies with respect to their India presence and offered his support in their expansion to Indian markets.

Detailing his discussions with the two CEOs, the ministry said: “In his discussion with Micron, Goyal highlighted how India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem presents vast opportunities for companies to collaborate & expand their businesses.

“While discussing with Neil Mohan, he emphasised on how India’s potential lies in its thriving digital ecosystem, growing content space, and young & diverse demography.

“As part of these bilateral meetings, the minister discussed prospects of these companies with respect to their India presence and offered his support in their expansion to Indian markets,” it said.

Later, Goyal also wrote in a social media post, “We discussed how India presents a huge opportunity for YouTube to further expand collaboration and footprint in the country.”

He also wrote about his meeting with Mehrotra on X. “Met Mr Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO & President of Micron Tech. Discussed how India's growing semiconductor ecosystem presents vast opportunities for the company to collaborate & expand its footprint in the country,” the post read.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Mehrotra in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where they deliberated on Micron Tech's initiatives to enhance India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

This meeting took place a month after the US chipmaker's announcement of a $825 million investment to establish a plant in Gujarat.
