West Bengal Govt. to set up analytics hub in Kalyani
The government has identified 52 acres of land in Kalyani Expressway under Nadia district for the proposed project and will offer the plots through e-auction.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the BCC&I, MIC of Technical Education and Training, Govt. of West Bengal, Ujjal Biswas said, “I am immensely happy that this is getting done. Technology is an important tool and cannot be avoided. In the past we have lost a lot of respect from other countries due to our negligence towards technology. Now I think it’s time for us to embrace it and hopefully we will do well.”
‘Samriddhi’ is the brainchild of Kallol Dutta, the ex President of the BCC&I. He said, “We wanted to stop the ‘brain drain’..., so we decided to build a city. This state has always been an intellectual hub and we wanted to utilize it. Kalyani is such a beautiful place, it has virtually everything and to have ‘Samriddhi’ over here will only boost its credibility. We all want to help the state. The govt. is with us.”
When asked about the amount they were looking at in terms of investment he said, “Anything in between Rs 3000-6000 crores. Rs 3000 crores is the minimum requirement.”
Ambarish Dasgupta, President Designate, BCC&I who attended the event told mediapersons, “(We) wanted to project Bengal as a superior technology hub. Analytics was one such area. The number of people involved with analysis in our state is a lot. We want the big companies like Google, Amazon, and IBM to come here in our ‘City of Analytics’”.
Debashis Sen, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Town and Country Planning, Govt. of West Bengal said, “We will be fixing the terms and conditions after discussing with the investors. 25 percent of the land will be reserved for the poor in both public and private township. It is mandatory. We want to create something that will bring in an economic development.”
The township had been designed by architect Dulal Mukherjee and will feature a school, residential areas, a sport centre, analytic hub, commercial centers and a lake.
