6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Japan
Tokyo/IBNS: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck off the southeast coast of Mie Prefecture at 5:09 pm the weather agency said Monday.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor's epicenter was located at a latitude of 33.6 degrees north and longitude of 137.5 degrees east and occurred at a depth of 350 km.
There have been no instances of damages, injuries, or abnormalities at the Fukushima nuclear plants, according to public broadcaster NHK.
The quake was measured at a magnitude of 6.1 by the U.S Geological Survey.
The incident resulted in the temporary halt of Shinkansen bullet trains, and the Tokyo metro, as per media reports.
They have resumed operations since the quake, as per an AFP report.
