Washington/IBNS: A 7.4-magnitude earthquake jolted 106 km south of Sand Point in Alaska on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning was issued for some areas of the US state after the earthquake.

The epicenter, with a depth of 9.3 km, was initially determined to be at 54.38 degrees north latitude and 160.70 degrees west longitude.

The Alaska Earthquake Centre said that tremors were felt across the Alaskan Peninsula, the Aleutian Islands, and the Cook Inlet regions.

Alaska is part of the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.
