About 48 pc of Covid-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh are young men, shows data

Lucknow/UNI: Of the total positive cases of Coronavirus detected in the state, around 48.23 per cent are men in the age group of 21 to 40 years, health officials said on Friday.

The figures revealed that young males are more prone to contracting COVID-19 than women and children because they are more out of their houses due to various reasons.

Besides, around 64 policemen, who were on duty, have been detected with Covid-19 in the state.
According to the official figures, till May 6, the percentage of 0 to 20 years of the positive case in UP is 17.88 per cent while between 21 to 40 yrs was 48.23 per cent, age group of 41 to 60 years is 26.54 per cent and above 60 yrs is just 7.44 per cent.

As senior citizens and children are mostly staying inside during the lockdown period, hence their numbers of less, said a senior health official.

In all the age groups, the number of the females affected is less by more than 50 per cent on average than their male counterparts.

In the age group of 21 to 40 yrs, there are 1,430 cases of the total 2,969 in the state in which males are 1,100 and females are just 332.

Similarly in the age group of 41 to 60 yrs, of the total 788, the male account for 500 and the females are just 288.

Above 60 yrs, age group, there are 221 cases, in which males are 169 and females are just 52.

In the zero to 20 yrs group, there are 528 positive cases in which 393 are male and 135 are females.

Meanwhile, another report said that 64 policemen have been detected with Covid-19 in the state with two policemen succumbing to the virus so far in Agra.

Sources said Kanpur has the highest number of COVID-19 positive policemen i e 24, followed Ferozabad with 17 and Varanasi, 11.

The state police have gone for preventive protection measures for the front-line policemen in the Coronavirus pandemic and purchased 10,000 PPE kits and N95 masks.
