Afghanistan reports 580 new COVID-19 cases

Kabul/Xinhua/UNI: Afghanistan reported on Thursday that 580 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 13,036, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

"A total of 1,072 suspected cases were tested within the past 24 hours, and 580 cases were tested positive COVID-19," the ministry said in a statement.

Public health authorities registered eight COVID-related deaths across the country during the period, and the total fatalities stand at 235 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February, the statement said.

The ministry has conducted 34,963 tests and 1,209 patients showed improvement and recovered since February, according to statistics of the public health ministry.

The statement urged Afghans to wear face masks in crowded places, practice physical distancing and keep personnel hygiene.
