Arvind Kejriwal asks Centre to ditch phased age-wise vaccination to curb Covid-19 surge

| @indiablooms | Mar 18, 2021, at 11:06 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today asked the Centre to ease the age restriction for Covid-19 vaccination and allow everyone above 18 to get inoculated. He also claimed his government could vaccinate entire Delhi within three months, if allowed.

He said if the Centre allows walk-in vaccination for everybody along with sufficient supply of the doses, his government can vaccinate all of Delhi in three months.

Kejriwal said he would write a letter to the Centre asking to relax parameters so that more centres could operate and for longer periods. He also asserted that the eligibility criteria for receiving the vaccine was too restrictive in terms of age groups.

He demanded that the vaccination system should be more open while opining that everyone above 18 should get vaccinated.

The chief minister also said that people should not hesitate to get the shots and cited his own and his parents' example, who were inoculated nearly two months ago.

Kejriwal appealed to all the people who are eligible in the current phase of vaccination drive to take the shots.

He said the Delhi government is planning to increase the vaccination capacity to 1.25 lakh per day. Currently, 30,000-40,000 vaccines are being administered, he informed and added that the vaccination hours would also be extended to 9 pm.

In the last 24 hours, Delhi has reported 536 fresh coronavirus cases, highest in nearly two-and-a-half months, along with three deaths.
